Did you know that Orlando ranked 2nd, and Tampa ranked 3rd for Wallet Hub’s 2019 Most Pet-Friendly Cities?  Metrics used in the analysis of the 100 most populated cities in the U.S. included Pet Budget (i.e. vet care costs, dog insurance), Pet Health and Wellness (i.e. vets per capita, doggie daycares  & boarding establishment per capita, ) and Outdoor Pet-Friendliness (i.e. weather, walk score, dog parks per capita).

This is great news for the greater Tampa Bay area, to include our South Shore communities, as this ranking will attract more buyers, and those buyers will need homes driving up the prices for the resale and new home communities.

A study by the National Association of Realtors found that when buying or selling a home, many of our decisions are impacted by our love for our pets. According to the 2019-2020 National Pet Owners Survey conducted by the American Pet Products Association (APPA), 67% of U.S. households, or about 85 million families, own a pet. This is up from 56 percent of U.S. households in 1988, the first year the survey was conducted.

Seeking out pet-friendly Realtors to assist in the home buying or selling process may prove to be quite beneficial as they have a greater understanding that dogs, cats, horses, and other domestic pets are considered important members of their family.

Most importantly, they understand the unique needs and wants to accommodate those animals when it comes to homeownership and will be able to help highlight the features of a home that will attract pet owners.

Pet-Friendly realtors will also be mindful of city and county ordinances, homeowner associations, and condo developments, which may have restrictions on the breeds, age, and the number of pets. Keeping up with ordinances, regulations, and rules and knowing where pets of any size, even horses are welcome is important.
